Formulas you will need

Key formulas This is a full-section mock, not a single-topic drill — treat it as timed practice under real conditions, about twenty-five minutes for the thirty questions
Grammar carries the most questions, matching its weight in the actual exam, followed by Vocabulary and then Comprehension
If a question type feels shaky, note the topic and go back to that topic's dedicated worksheet for focused practice
How to use this worksheet. Attempt this exactly as you would the real section: one steady pass, marking anything doubtful rather than stalling on it, then a second pass at the end. Reviewing which topics cost you the most time here is more useful than the score itself.

A yes-or-no question is introduced by if or whether, never by that.

Section B · Vocabulary

Mixed topics, ten questions

Covers synonyms, antonyms, idioms and phrases, one-word substitution, and spellings — two questions from each of the five Vocabulary topics.

Q15
Select the most appropriate synonym of the underlined word.
His explanation was lucid.
Lucid means easily understood. The root is the Latin lux, light.
Q16PYQ 2021 · Shift 3
Select the most appropriate synonym of the underlined word.
The design on the hand-woven shawl was beautiful.
Exquisite means finely and delicately beautiful, which suits a hand-woven design. The trap here is that affable, amiable and agreeable all describe a pleasant person, not an object — three options share a meaning that cannot apply to a shawl.
Q17PYQ 2025 · Shift 1
Select the most appropriate ANTONYM of the given word.
DETERMINED
This question is imperfectly framed, since suspicious is not a true opposite of determined. But resolute, stubborn and firm are all clear synonyms, so suspicious is the only option that can be intended. When no option is a genuine antonym, eliminate the synonyms and take what remains — that technique earns the mark on a flawed question.
Q18
Select the most appropriate ANTONYM of the given word.
CONCEAL
Reveal means to make known. The other three all mean to hide.
Q19
Select the most appropriate meaning of the given idiom.
To hold the fort
It means to take responsibility while the person normally in charge is away.
Q20PYQ 2021 · Shift 2
Select the most appropriate idiom to fill in the blank.
As soon as the decision to raise the price of petrol and diesel was announced, _______ in the Parliament.
The main clause is in the past (was announced), so the idiom must be past too: all hell broke loose. Here the tense decides the answer, not the meaning — all four options carry the same sense.
Q21
Select the one-word substitute.
One who cannot read or write
Illiterate means unable to read or write. Illegible describes handwriting that cannot be read.
Q22
Select the one-word substitute.
One who is indifferent to pleasure and pain
A stoic endures both without complaint. An epicurean is almost the opposite, seeking pleasure.
Q23
Select the correctly spelt word.
Questionnaire takes a double n, following the French pattern.
Q24
Select the INCORRECTLY spelt word.
It should be believe — i before e except after c.

Section C · Comprehension

Mixed topics, ten questions

Covers reading comprehension, cloze test, and para jumbles — two questions from each of the three Comprehension topics.

Q25PYQ 2021 · Shift 2
Two words used in the passage which are synonymous with each other are:
Eruption and outbreak both describe the sudden appearance of the disease. Cholera is a disease and miasma a supposed vapour, so they are not synonyms, and the two occupations in option 4 are quite different.
Q26
According to the passage, why did Sreedharan set deadlines publicly?
The final sentence states the reason directly.
Q27
Fill in blank (4).
The fixed expression is give a reason for something.
Q28
Fill in blank (3).
The subject is it, referring to kindness, and the sentence needs the base form after does not: mean.
Q29
Sentences of a paragraph are given in jumbled order. Arrange them to form a meaningful, coherent paragraph.
A. This process, called photosynthesis, is essential to almost all life on Earth.   B. Plants convert sunlight into chemical energy stored in glucose.   C. In turn, animals depend on plants, directly or indirectly, for food.   D. They do this using a green pigment called chlorophyll, found in their leaves.
Start with the general claim B, explain the mechanism in D, name the process in A, then extend to the wider consequence in C: B, D, A, C. A pronoun such as they or this must always refer back to something already introduced, which is the surest way to link two sentences.
Q30
Parts of a sentence are given in jumbled order. Arrange them to form a meaningful sentence.
A. the exam   B. she prepared for   C. by studying every day   D. six months in advance
The natural sentence is She prepared for the exam six months in advance by studying every day, which is B, A, D, C. Find the subject and main verb first — here that is B — and build outward from it.
